Abstract

A charge removing device suitable for use in an electrophotographic copying machine comprises a plurality of lamps arranged transversely to the direction of movement of a rotatable photo-sensitive member, said lamps being adapted to illuminate sections of the said photo-sensitive member dependent upon the width of the copy to be obtained, a plurality of cams adapted to rotate in association with movement of said photosensitive member, a plurality of micro switches adapted to operate in cooperation with said cams, a plurality of selection switches for selecting the size of the copy and a control circuit including said micro switches and said selection switches for energising and de-energising said lamps. Typically the lamps L1 to L7 are partitioned by light impermeable walls 23-26 into lamp sections dependent upon the copy width, as illustrated in Figure 2. The device enables the leading and trailing edges of the copy, as well as the lateral edges, to be discharged. <IMAGE>
