Abstract

A one-piece gas-fired radiant of the surface combustion kind is an open structure of bonded refractory ceramic fibre and has a continuous service temperature of at least 1000 DEG C. and the radiant (1) is made to simulate a solid fuel fire by having surface protuberances (2) coloured to represent unburnt pieces of fuel and spaces (3) between the protuberances (2) coloured to represent ash and embers, these spaces having distributed randomly thereover the outlets of passages (4) for a gas/air mixture, the passages directing the flames so that the protuberances retain their unburnt appearance. <IMAGE>
