Abstract

In a machine having a piston 13 reciprocating in a cylinder fixed to a crankcase 1, the piston 13 is coupled with a rotary shaft 3 by having its connecting rod 14 rotatably connected with a crankpin 10 on a crankshaft 6 which is in turn mounted for rotation in bearing rings 2 which are themselves rotatable in the crankcase 1. The axes of the crankpin, crankshaft and bearing rings are all parallel, the crankshaft axis being eccentric with respect to the bearing ring axis to the same extent as is the crankpin axis with respect to the crankshaft axis, and a gear 7 fixed to and coaxial with the crankshaft engages the toothing of an internally toothed annulus 9 coaxial with the bearing rings and fixed with respect to the crankshaft, the axis of the crankpin passing through a point on the pitch circle of the gear 7. The crankpin axis executes a purely linear reciprocating motion as the shaft 3, in driving engagement with the bearing rings 2, rotates. <IMAGE>
