Abstract

A bottom blown metallurgical vessel for steel making includes one or more frusto-conical monolithic refractory tuyere blocks (16) in the base or side wall of the vessel. The or each tuyere block has a tuyere pipe (18) passing axially therethrough and the block is releasably secured in position by a plurality of refractory seating blocks (24,26,28), located outwardly of the tuyere block in such manner that upon removal of the seating blocks in a direction outwardly of the vessel the tuyere block may also be withdrawn outwardly of the vessel. <IMAGE>
