Abstract

206,569. Innes, W., and Metropolitan- Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd. Aug. 4, 1922. Dynamos, regulating.-A steam-engine or turbine driving a generator is provided with a speed governor, a load governor operating independently of speed variaticns, and means for rendering the load governor irresponsive to gradual variations. As applied to a governing system for a turbine installation such as is described in Specification 201,959, the circuit of the solenoid 11, which operates a bye-pass valve, or both a bye-pass valve and a governor valve contains a switch 49, 50 operated by a spring-pressed piston 51 exposed to the pressure in the turbine. On a predetermined variation in the load, the circuit 48 of the solenoid 11 is closed by a relay 17 operated by the power, current or voltage in the circuit of the generator. If the change is sudden the switch 49, 50 remains closed and the solenoid 11 is energized, but, if the change is sufficiently gradual for the speed governor to operate, the switch 49, 50 is opened by the consequent fall in pressure. In a modification, the solenoid 11 is normally energized and the relay 17 breaks the circuit on a predetermined fall in load. The switch 49, 50 is arranged in parallel with the relay 17 and is closed by a fall in pressure. Signal lamps may be arranged in the circuits to indicate whether the switch and relay are open or closed.
