Abstract
192,341. Boltshauser, H. Sept. 27, 1922. Railway locomotives. -In locomotives provided with ahead and astern turbines mounted in separate casings, each casing having an exhaust passage connected directly to the condenser, and an interconnecting passage being provided so that part of the exhaust from each turbine is led into the direct passage between the other turbine and the condenser, the interconnecting passage is arranged to deliver through the exhaust chamber not in use. In the illustrated form, the turbines 21, 22 are connected directly by pipes 24 25 to the parts 26, 27 of a divided condenser or to the arms of a common condenser. The interconnecting passage 23 delivers part of the exhaust from whichever turbine is in action, through the exhaust chamber of the idle turbine to the other part of the condenser which does not receive the direct flow of exhaust. By this arrangement the diameter of the pipes 24, 25 can be minimized.
