Abstract

13,562. Schroeder, G. Sept. 23. Commutating poles and windings.-In a dynamoelectric machine of the commutator type, the strength of the commutating-field is controlled in accordance with the voltage-drop across a main brush. The commutating-winding may be excited wholly or in part from an exciter machine the field windings of which are excited wholly or in part from the potential-drop across the brush. This potential-drop is obtained from two auxiliary brushes 3, 4 on the commutator. Where a. single field winding 10 is provided on the exciter, a resistance 17 in series with it may be controlled by a resistance or vibrator regulator operated by a coil 13 connected across the brushes 3, 4. The vibrator regulator may be of the type described in Specification 8063/12, [Class 38 (iv), Electric supply and transmission systems &c.]. The exciter may be driven from the dynamo-electric machine or by a constant-speed motor, or the field of the exciter may be maintained constant and the speed of the auxiliary motor varied in accordance with the potential across the brushes 3, 4, or both the excitation of the generator and the speed of the motor may be varied in accordance with the potential-drop. In a modification, the commutating-winding is connected across two main brushes or is separately excited, and a resistance in series with it is controlled in accordance with the voltage across the auxiliary brushes. Specification 27,968/09 also is referred to.
