Abstract

4018. Tallent, A. A. K., and Carlson, G. K. March 13. Printing-surfaces. - Flexible sheet intaglio printing-surfaces are stretched around printing- cylinders by a cam-member pivoted in a recess in the cylinder and adapted, when closed, to complete the periphery of the cylinder. The ends of the sheet are arranged to engage the cylinder and the cam-member and are provided with tongues and recesses to engage with one another, or with recesses to engage a tongued strip in the cylinder gap, so as to provide a continuous surface for supporting the scraper. A strip of felt may be inserted in the gap to prevent ink from passing through. Fig. 1 shows a cylinder, in the gap of which is pivoted a cam-member G adapted to be rocked by a worm L, ratchet-gear, or a screw. The cylinder and the cam-member are provided with lips E, F, with which the hook ends H, I, Fig. 5, of the sheet engage, being further secured if desired by clamping-members M, N, which may be pivoted, entering wedge-shaped recesses. After securing the sheet, the member G is rocked from the position shown in dotted-line to that shown in full lines. The gap in this arrangement is bridged by a strip with tongues engaging recesses near the ends of the flexible sheet, the strip being carried on a bar Q secured to the lip E or to the ends of the cylinder. The bar and strip may, however, be dispensed with and the gap bridged by forming tongues near one end of the sheet to engage recesses near the other end, as shown in Fig. 5.
