Abstract
24,598. Pooley, H., and Fiddes, G. B. Dec. 24. Scrubbers and washers.-Gas scrubbing, washing, and like apparatus comprises a casing or shell 1 containing spaced and superimposed conical baffle-plates 2 with openings so arranged that the gas follows a tortuous course, water, steam, or other solvent &c. being sprayed on some or all of the plates, and a seal being provided between each pair of plates by a cylindrical flange 6 on the upper plate dipping into an annular gutter 5 on the lower plate. A lip or apron 9 is provided around each gutter to prevent the overflow therefrom from falling into the lower gutters. Alternate plates may have central openings 3, while the remaining plates have lateral holes 4, which may be surrounded by a flange 10; the latter plates may also have central apertures closed by removable caps 12. At the foot of the casing 1 is a tank 17 with an inclined floor 18, through which passes the gas-outlet pipe 21. The flange 8 on the lowest baffle-plate rests on brackets or joists in the tank.
