Abstract

Lever and platform load - handling appliances.-Hand-trucks of the kind adapted to be wheeled under and to raise a detachable load platform are mounted on a central axle over which the platform is drawn forward so that the centre of gravity of the load is brought between this axle and the forward wheel or wheels. The truck comprises two side beams a upwardly turned or provided with upward projections at their rear ends d upon which is mounted a runner or roller k. The platform m has preferably tapered sides m<1> or other feet so that one side is raised when it rests upon the floor. The truck is tilted about its central axle b and runs under the platform m, whereupon projecting ends n on bearing-surfaces o are engaged by the hooked ends of levers i pivoted to the side beams and the platform is drawn forward over the runner or roller k. A pin r secures the platform to a cross-piece u when in position. The levers i are connected together by a cross-piece p which is normally engaged by hooks q on the end posts of the truck. A single central lever i may be used, operated by hand or pedal. The levers i may have their ends serrated or they they have cams instead of hooked ends. The front of the truck is provided with a wheel or wheels f swivelling about a vertical axis.
