Abstract

6248. Eccles, R., and Eccles, S. March 12. Chain wrenches.-A chain pipe-wrench consists of a pair of large links c<2> having a length of roller chain attached and a separate lever e notched at e<2> and tapered on the lower side. The chain links are folded round the pipe f and then passed between the large links, and the lever e is inserted, using the end pin d of the large links as a fulcrum, the notch e<2> of the lever passing into a link of the chain on the further side from the pipe f, thereby gripping the pipe. The side plates of the chain links are curved as shown at a<1 >to conform to the pipe f. The lever e may be connected with the large links by a short chain to prevent loss.
