Abstract

19,203. Lewis, T. E. Aug. 25. Working-fluid supply; plant.-A number of radial cylinders D are formed in a rotor A and fitted with sliding pistons E which are rigidly connected in pairs by yokes F having lugs H controlled by stationary cam-paths I so that the pistons draw in an explosive charge through ports L in the fixed casing and compress it into the fixed combustion chamber N. The pistons E and the combustion chamber may be formed with inclined surfaces as shown to utilize the impact of the explosion, which is effected by an ignition device O, exhaust taking place through a port Q. The rotor may be provided with more than one ring of cylinders D, a staggered arrangement being adopted for successive rings. The open ends of the cylinders are packed by rings P.
