Abstract

20,080. Alex, G. Sept. 3. Skid.-An emergency brake for motor-vehicles comprises sledge runners 10 supported by parallel links 5, 6 and lowered into contact with the ground, so as to take the weight of the vehicle, by a lever 12, Fig. 1. connected to the shaft 8 which supports the links 6. The links 6 abut against brackets 11<1> when the brake is applied, and may be locked thereto by a chain &c. 13 to prevent theft of the car. In order to assist in raising the skids out of action, screws 14 are arranged to abut against the links 5, and are operated by handles 15. Fig. 3 shows the application to a tri-car, the links 6 being mounted on the rear axle, and operated through the gearing shown. The links 5, 6 may be replaced by eccentrics. Actuated by motor-stopping appliances.-The shaft 8, Fig. 1, or one of the links 5, 6 may be connected to the motor so as to cut off the power supply, when the brake is applied.
