Abstract
25,858. HÚroult, P. L. T. Dec. 11, 1911, [Convention date]. Cast-iron processes. - A high-grade pig-iron is obtained by treating pig-iron in a basic-lined electric furnace with a basic slag free from iron oxide so as to eliminate the sulphur without acting sensibly on the carbon content. The slag may consist of lime (60 per cent), alumina, silica, and fluorspar. After the desulphurization, the content of carbon, silicon, and manganese can be increased by the addition of suitable materials.
