Gases and vapours, treating electrically. - An ozonizing-apparatus comprises a number of open - ended electrode tubes arranged in series, in combination with a corresponding number of cooling - tubes arranged in series, the cooling-medium Howing in the opposite direction to the air. Each of the electrode tubes 10 ... 15 comprises an inner electrode 19 carrying rings 20, and an insulating tube 18 extending below the electrode surfaces and slidable in its outer electrode 10 &c. so that it can be removed by lifting it through a window 26 The electrode tubes extend between upper and lower chambers 5, 1 divided into compartments 6-9 and 2-4 respectively, which connect the tubes in series, the air entering at 16 and leaving at 17. High-tension current enters at 21 through an insulation 22 at the top of a pipe which encloses a body of stagnant air which prevents the deposition of moisture on the outside around the lead 21 as it does not share in the cooling of the air to be ozonized. The connexions to the inner electrodes are hinged to the connecting-bars 23 to allow of easy removal of the electrodes. A cooling - fluid, preferably liquid ammonia, is circulated through jackets 30, 31, 32 and flows in a direction opposite to the air-flow.
