1268. Bauer, J. C. Jan. 16. Vices.-Pipe and rod vices having cam-shaped pivoted and spring-closed jaws are provided with (1) an eccentric jaw pivot b which may be rotated by a handle l to raise the jaws to a slight extent for releasing the work ; (2) means, such as the springs or pawls s<1> engaging notches or projections a' in the jaws or friction springs c engaging the sides or edges of the jaws, to hold the jaws in the open position; and (3) a trigger or saddle piece r which, either directly or through the intermediary of a spring or springs s, when pressed down by the work, will release the retaining-devices of the jaws to allow the springs a<2> to close them.
