Regulating delivery by by-passes.-In a pump for supplying fuel to internal - combustion engines, the lever e which actuates the pump plunger c also operates a spring-pressed rod g which bears against a lever i which opens the by-pass valve q to return oil to the tank through the passage r. The lever i is fulcrumed on a cam j the position of which is altered by means of a lever l connected through link-work to the governor d by means of which the time of opening the valve q is varied. In place of the lever i being fulcrumed on the cam j, it may be fulcrumed on a lever which is moved by a cam under the action of the governor.
