Abstract
15,752. Lake, W. E., [Samson Cordage Works]. July 6. Coupling transmission ropes having a covered inextensible core. The coupling is smaller in diameter than the rope so that it may readily pass around a sheave, and is shown applied to a rope comprising a wire core e laid about a hemp or other centre, and a fibrous covering b attached to the core by a vulcanized matrix h as described in Specification 24,881/10. The ends of the core are pushed through screwthreaded thimbles f and enlarged to fill the larger ends of the thimbles, as by means of a tack n, Fig. 3. The ends of the wire strands of the cores are hammered down over the tack, and solder is applied at g, g'. The covering b is cut off approximately even with the ends of the thimbles, and bound by wire c. An internally threaded sleeve a connects the thimbles
