Abstract

8038. Ommundsen, H., Newitt, E. J. D., and Hollick, S. R. March 30. Sights. -Consists in the combination with a gun of a sighting-device the sight-line S L of which makes a fixed angle with the gun. The angle is chosen according to a rule explained in the Specification, so that within certain limiting ranges, any target, for example O2, of constant height H, will be cut somewhere in its height by the depressed trajectory T, shown by the full line, if the sight-line is directed on to a point a specified distance below the target, no range estimation being required. For military rifles, the sights are fixed so that, if H is a man's height, the aim must be taken at a point a distance H below the feet of the man shot at.
