Abstract

4114. Sinclair, J., and Baird, R. A. Feb. 18. Hopper wagons; doors, wagon.-A bogie for conveying coal from the working face of a mine to the discharging-bridge has a bottom portion in halves pivoted to the body which automatically remain closed but can be opened to discharge the contents of the bogie. Pivoted to the ends of a rectangular body a are frames d carrying two swinging bottom portions b, c which normally remain closed. Projections f are provided on the parts b, c which are engaged by plates h at each side of the track at the bridge so as to open the parts b, c and discharge the load. The ends of the body a are bent over at j and angled to carry the axle-boxes of the wheels, which are arranged so that the bottom of the bogie is close to the floor, the angled parts being stayed by strips k. The bent-over parts j also support the pivots of the frames d. When used in deep seams a framework may be fixed on the top of the body. Rollers may be substituted for wheels when rails are not used.
