The rollers are arranged in sets of three, the two outer ones i, l of which engage the cams, and the centre ones k the valve spindles e. The rods may be replaced by pivoted rods pressed towards the cams by springs. The valve springs are arranged outside the valve boxes, and press on the outer ends of the valve spindles.
