Abstract
20,491. Siemens Bros. Dynamo Works, [Siemens-Schuckertwerke]. Sept. 2. Dynamos and motors, cooling and ventilating. -Relates to means for cooling a machine by passing a liquid through the rotor hub, as described in Specification 22,789/09, and consists in forming a passage in the hub of such form as to give a suction action for withdrawing the liquid, with or without concurrent use of an air current to assist the cooling. The liquid is introduced by a pipe f<1>, Fig. 1, into a passage d in the hub b', the passage being traversed by ribs e and having a greater diameter at the outlet end than at the inlet end. The discharge is effected by a bell-shaped piece g having ribs g<1> forming nozzles, the suctional action of which aids the flow of the water to the stationary discharge casing h, which terminates in a tail-pipe h'. Leakage at the inlet end is prevented by a flared baffle b, rotating with the armature, and a fixed annulus f<2> mounted in the hub opening. In the form shown in Figs. 2 and 3, in addition to watercooling by a conical passage d having inlets f<1> and suctional outlets g<1>, as described above, an air passage d<1> is provided, through which air enters from either end, as shown by the arrows.. It passes outwards through passages e<1> in the ribs e to grooves b<x> on the hub surface and leaves the armature through the ventilating- ducts a<x>. Air passages are also formed under the commutator bed, as shown.
