F l u i d -pressure, ram, and like apparatus ; buffers and shock-absorbing devices. - Comprises lowering-apparatus in which platforms i are carried by rams which work in cylinders connected by a pipe d, so that, when one platform is loaded, it falls and the other rises. Means may be provided for locking a platform in the top position, and the rate of descent may be controlled by means of a valve e. A shock-absorbing device is also described for use when a piston and a rod of smaller diameter are employed instead of a ram. As the piston rises, the air in the cylinder is expelled through a hole near the top of the cylinder. When this is closed by the piston the air can only escape through a smaller hole in the cylinder cap so that the piston encounters an increasing resistance. The rate of escape through the larger holes may be regulated by a valve.
