Abstract
28,126. Schiffers, A. Dec. 2. Drying fibrous materials. - In a machine for dyeing, bleaching, and similarly treating textile fibres or goods, such as wool, cotton, artificial silk, &c., in cops, or loose state, or as finished goods, the materials are packed in a receiver and are therein, in succession, dyed, centrifuged, fixed, rinsed, and dried without removal. The receiver 30, Fig. 3, consists of an annular vessel composed of inner and outer perforated mantles 37, 38 supported by a bottom 31 seated upon a conical shoulder 32 of a vertical shaft 29. The top 33 is held in position on the shaft 29 by a perforated spacing- ring 34. During the circulation of fluid through the receiver, the receiver is held up sothat the spacing- ring 34 is held tightly against a ring channel 23 by the action, through lateral pintles 58 and levers and rods 59, 60, 50, 52, of a handwheel nut 53, Fig. 1, working on the upper screw-threaded portion of the last rod 52. In these circumstances fluid can pass through a multi-way valve 61 and a channel 62 in the wall of the vat 1 which contains the receiver 30, up through the tubular trunnion 7 of the cover 6, through a channel 22 in the cover itself, and so through the ring channel 23 to the interior space of the receiver 30, through the materials therein, and then out through another aperture and the same valve, or (2) in the contrary direction. The tubular trunnion 7 of the cover 6 is seated in a sleeve 8 one side of which has a rack, by means of which, in conjunction with hand-actuated worm and spur-wheel gear, the cover can be raised. Packing 11 is provided, as also a ball bearing 10 to enable the cover to be swung aside when raised from off the vat 1. A succession of treatments for dyeing, the various multiway cocks 61, 69, 72 being appropriately turned for each operation, is carried out as follows: The vat being charged and closed, and the receiver 30 being raised as described, the air in the vat is drawn off through a pipe 68<1> and heating-conduits 67, 66 by a blower 68. After this. evacuation, the dye and other liquors are admitted and may be circulated by a pump 70. After withdrawing any liquor, the vertical shaft 29 is lowered, and the receiver is rapidly rotated on its ball bearings 28 in the cover 39<1>, 45 below the bottom 5 of the vat, and in a hanger 51, also below the vat 1. In this way all remaining liquor is centrifuged out of the receiver 30 and drawn off by the pump 70. The receiver is brought to rest by gradually lowering a friction sleeve 47, controlled by one 50 of the levers, until it makes contact with the driving-pulley 55. The goods are finally dried by passing hot air through them, the heaters 66, 67 now being brought into operation. Bleaching &c. is effected similarly.
