Abstract

27,222. Brooks, R. Nov. 23. Tubes or containers, collapsible. - Relates to collapsible tubes for containing glue, paint, &c., of the kind having an outlet closed by a wall or septum which can be punctured by a pointed plug, which also serves to close the outlet. Means are provided for spreading the contents of the tube in a strip of definite width but of variable thickness, and for laterally supporting the plug. The outlet 13 of the tube is closed by a septum 14, which can be punctured by a pointed plug 15. At one side of the outlet is formed a projection 16 having a groove 17, which forms an extended bearing for the plug. The projection 16 is provided with a bevelled face 18, at the sides of which are formed ears or runners 19. When the tube is inverted and placed against the surface 20, Fig. 5, to which the contents are to be applied, the edge of the bevelled face 18 is held away from the surface by the runners 19. When the tube is compressed and drawn along the surface, a stream of material is deposited between the runners and is spread by the edge of the face 18, the thickness of the stream varying with the inclination of the tube. The plug 15 is provided with a finger 23, which engages a notch in the outer side of the projection 16 to prevent the plug from tipping away from the projection, and from being dislodged from the outlet. The outlet and projection 16 may be formed on a screw cap.
