Abstract

Swimming - appliances. - Collapsible shoes for walking on water are made of impermeable cloth or similar material, stretched by suitable disks 7 to cylindrical shape, and terminating at one end in a point 5. A tubular extension 2 is provided to embrace the foot of the wearer. One end of the outside envelope 1 is fixed to a disk 3 of wood or other material in which are mounted the ends of two shafts 4 serving to keep the material stretched. The other end of the envelope 1 is fixed to the end cone 5. in which is mounted a shaft 6. The support 8 for the foot is made of leather or like material and is fastened around the shafts 4. The propelling-device comprises a wheel having two or more paddles 9 mounted on shafts 10, which are carried by iron brackets 13 secured to the floats. The shafts may be cast in one with the corresponding bracket, or they may be separate from the propeller and turned in bearings on the floats. In Fig. 7 is shown a modification in which the propelling-device is operated by the handle 18, and a rudder 19 is provided. In this form, the floats are connected by a rod 20.
