Abstract
8767. Grimwade, S. R., and Sayer, J. April 13. Flower holders; flower vases.-A flower bowl, or vase, is provided with one or more receptacles adapted to receive grass seed to furnish foliage to the flowers. The receptacles are made of porous material such as terra-cotta or unglazed earthenware, and are supplied with water either directly or by capillary action. In one form, Fig. 1, an annular or other trough b, the interior of which is serrated, indented, or roughened to hold the seeds and roots, rests on the rim or on the sides of the bowl a, a lower rim c preferably dipping into the water. The outer edge e of the trough is preferably raised to hide the lower parts of the grass. The flowers may be supported by a holder such as the glass holder z. In a modification, the trough has in addition a rim of suitable shape depending outside the vase. In a further modification, the seed trough is provided with a rim resting in a water trough or tray such as m, Fig. 7, and preferably also with an inner rim dipping into the water in the vase; the walls of the seed trough, and in a modification, the inner wall also of the water trough, may be dispensed with. The seed trough p, shown in Fig. 7, is made in segments; there may be provided a seed trough v so formed that it can be placed over the tubular projections of the flower-holder z. A seed trough s, Fig. 10. formed annularly or in the shape of leaves or of the petals of a flower may be made integral with, or separate from, the bowl t, or the seed troughs u may rest in the base of a glass, china, or like bowl.
