9272. M³hlrad, J. May 2. Lubricators.-A lubricator for the bearings of shafts &c. consists of an oil cup a containing a tube s terminating in a fine point b measuring from 0À1 to 0À4 millimetres. The tube 8 is packed by a cork or wooden plug c in the lubricating- hole, or in the boring d, in which case the tube may have a flange resting on the boring. Lubricant is drawn through the tube by the rotation of the shaft, and, in order that the action may continue when the cup. contains a small quantity of lubricant, the tube s is bent as shown in Fig. 1, or is surrounded by the sleeve f fixed on the plug c, as in Fig. 2. In the case of movable bearings for connecting-rods, crossheads, &c., a short straight piece of tube with a point b projects into the oil cup.
