Abstract

24,568. H³bner, J., and Mayer, I. Nov. 12. Valves, closing with rush of fluid; leakage, detecting. - An arrangement of valves is shown in Fig. 1 adapted to enable an automatic valve f to close in case of pipe-fracture or leakage on the engine side. The steam flows to the engine b through two stop valves d<1>, d connected by a pipe c. The automatic valve f closes against the underside of the seat of the stop valved'. An annular depression s in the casing of the valve f serves to retain water of condensation. During normal action, steam leaks past the loosely-fitting pistonpart r of the valve f, into the chamber e underneath, and thence along the pipe g and past the valve h into the engine b. In the event of fracture of the pipe c, or of a leakage, the increased velocity of flow causes a reduction of pressure above the valve f at n, so that the valve f is closed by the pressure underneath in the chamber e. A valve i in the blow-off pipe k euables the action of the automatic valve to be tested. The sensitiveness of the action can be increased by throttling the pipe g by means of a screw valve o, or by a check valve-closing with the rush of fluid-the lift of which is adjusted by a screw.
