Abstract

180,823. Reid, G. U. March 31, 1921. Casings.-In a centrifugal pump with a radial inlet pipe a, the flow of liquid is diverted by the curved surfaces e, f on a block inserted at the bend of the pipe. The concave surface e is placed where the flow of liquid would be opposed to the direction of rotation of the impeller, to divert the liquid towards the part of the eye adjacent to the lateral suction passage and approximately into the direction of rotation. The surface e may be backed by the helical surface f directing liquid into the part of the eye remote from the suction passage. The block forming the surfaces e, f may be formed of cement on a metallic skeleton.
