Abstract
In the manufacture of sulphuric acid, a stream of cold acid is made to trickle permanently over the whole inner surface of the walls of the lead chambers or towers for the purpose of protecting them from corrosion. Preferably, chambers are constructed as cylinders, or reversed truncated cones, cold acid being directed on to the walls by a turbine of resistant material placed axially near the top of the chamber and fitted with jets or wings to ensure the wetting of the whole inner surface. Nitrous vitriol may be introduced into the chamber in the same way.
