9326. Rosdestwenskij, A., and Bounimowitch, E. April 13 Type, setting and distributing.-(1) Composing- apparatus. The types are placed in vertical channels B and are released singly into a composing-stick E by operating the keys b<6>. There may be several rows of channels B (in Fig. 2 three rows are shown), one behind the other and containing different kinds of types, the keys and composing- stick being mounted on a slide D so that they may be moved into position to co-operate with any one of the rows of channels. The types C, Fig. 3, are held up by the lower bent ends of levers b, held in normal position by springs s. On each key lever b<6> is a cam piece b<5> which, when the lever is operated, engages rollers b<4> on spindles projecting , from the levers b. This releases the lowest type and presses the upper ends b<2> of the levers against the next type, thereby preventing more than one type from falling. The types are pushed along to the end of the stick E, and the stick moved along by means of a sliding pusher, operated by cords and pulleys. The latter may be operated by electromagnets under the control of a special key, or by a treadle arrangement. (2) Distributing- apparatus. The types are separated into lines and turned on to their sides by aid of a pair of plates or shovels. They are then put into a channel, mounted so as to be moved by hand over any one of a series of receiving-channels such as those used in the composing-apparatus. A single type is released, when in position to drop into its receiver, by an arrangement of a pair of levers b and a lever b<6> such as those used in the composing- machine.
