Abstract
189,501. Liebmann, A. G. Aug. 23, 1921. Combined fluid-actuated and mechanical gears; slide valves, flat.-A shovelling machine comprising a shovel pivoted to a shoot is mounted .on a truck driven by a twin cylinder reversing engine provided with slide valves 26, Figs. 32 and 33, each with a central aperture 27 open to an exhaust port 21. The shovel is oscillated by a motor 177, of which the piston 184 is reciprocated by fluid admitted through an inlet 188 passing through a port 190 to raise a valve 193 partially, fluid then passing around the flange 195 of the valve to move the piston 184. Towards the end of the stroke the piston passes an exhaust port 186, completes the movement of the valve 193 by contact therewith of a tappet 205, and compresses fluid in the upper cylinder end, this fluid then effecting the return stroke, during which exhaust occurs first through port 186, and through port 190 around the lower end of the valve 190, while after the valve has been moved downward by cushioning, exhaust is completed through ports 196, 192.
