Abstract
185,506. Spencer, H. W. June 6, 1921. Pressure-reducing valves of the kind in which the valve is opened by a piston acted upon by steam pressure. The valve member H is so mounted in an expansion member J<2> that the movement of the valve first opens the chamber to the outlet only, and afterwards ports J<3> leading from the inlet are opened to effect a preliminary reduction of the steam pressure. The passage of steam through the ports is controlled by a cylindrical extension H<2> of the valve member. The piston E operating the valve is acted upon by the high pressure steam, which passes through a pilot valve under the control of a diaphragm acted upon by the reduced-pressure steam. A valve F operated by a spindle G may close a passage H<1> in the main valve and allow the pressure of the steam leaking past the, cylindrical extension to close the main valve.
