Abstract

176,478. Carpenter, C. Dec. 2, 1920. Mantle carriers.-In an inverted gas-mantle carrier comprising a ring having supporting-lugs and provided with a strengthening ring or flange, the carrier ring or the strengthening ring is so perforated or cut away as to restrict or deflect as little as possible the ascent of the hot air and gases from the burner. In one form, as shown in Fig. 4, a carrier ring, having a groove 1 to receive a mantle and lugs 2, is provided with a ring 3, which may be provided with a short chimney 4. In a second form, as shown in Fig. 8, a flange 3 is provided with perforations 5. or it may be notched. The rim of the carrier ring may be provided with slits to allow for expansion.
