Abstract

1536414 Selective signalling A F KALDOR 5 Dec 1975 [11 Dec 1974] 50110/75 Heading G4H In a TV audience survey system, each TV receiver has an associated outstation which responds to an interrogation signal from a central station to shift out the contents of a shift register at the outstation and send them to the central station. The shift register holds an 0 bit, a 1 bit (for synchronization purposes at the central station), 3 bits to indicate the TV channel in use, 6 bits from manual switches to indicate which members of the household are present, and pairs of bits obtained via encoding and flip-flop storage from manual opinion switches (opinions of the programme, and answers to questions displayed in the TV programme). Reception of a particular frequency at the outstation sets a flip-flop and lights a lamp to indicate that opinions of the programme are required, the flip-flop being reset and the lamp extinguished when an opinion is entered.
