Abstract
1531862 Storing hydrogen BILLINGS ENERGY CORP 23 Jan 1976 [21 April 1975] 02703/76 Heading F4P One or more containers 6 having a circular cross - section and filled with a hydrogen absorbent material is/are associated with means (a housing 2, as shown) for conducting a flow of heat exchange medium (h.e.m.) into contact with the container(s) 6 to enhance the absorption or desorption of hydrogen gas introduced or extracted through a manifold 30. The containers 6 in Fig. 1 are spaced by members 10 to improve circulation of the h.e.m. which is introduced at inlet 14. To improve heat exchange the containers 6 may have conduits extending longitudinally therethrough, and the containers may be frusto-conical with their broader ends upstream with respect to flow of h.e.m. to make uniform the transfer of heat along their lengths. Alternatively the containers or the conduits may have axially extending radial fins which increase in radial extent towards the downstream ends of the containers. In another arrangement the containers which have differing diameters are arranged transverse to the flow of h.e.m. with the containers of greatest diameter being at the upstream end and those of least diameter being at the downstream end of the arrangement. The absorbent material may be an iron-titanium alloy, mischmetal, or columbium.
