Abstract
1528876 Isoprene BASF AG 30 Jan 1976 [1 Feb 1975] 03728/76 Heading C5E Isoprene is prepared by the catalytic dehydration of 3-methyl-3-buten-1-ol with a mixture of an alcohol and a hydrogen halide. The reaction may be carried out at 0-140‹ C. optionally in the presence of water or an inert organic diluent. Catalysts used in the Examples are mixtures of HCl with isopropanol, n-butanol-1 and cyclohexanol.
