Abstract
1524887 Glass fibre manufacture OWENS CORNING FIBREGLASS CORP 30 Sept 1976 [21 Oct 1975] 40666/76 Heading C1M In the formation of glass fibres by attenuating streams of glass flowing from a stream feeder, heat being extracted from the streams by metal members adjacent thereto, streams of gas are directed above the metal members to reduce condensation on the metal members of volatiles from the glass. The gas of the streams may be steam or a mixture of air and HF (e.g. 1 part by volume HF to 10 parts of air). In Fig. 2 glass issuing from tips 18 is cooled by fins 48, which are connected to cooled headers, and the gas is introduced through tubes or nozzles 57.
