Abstract

1521345 Cutting apparatus HITACHI METALS Ltd 22 March 1979 11510/76 Heading B4B A full rotation-type machine for shearing a web 900 comprises a blade 103 mounted on a rotatable shaft 101 and co-operable with a resiliently-mounted stationary blade 203, an electric motor 400 for rotating the shaft 101, means 600 for detecting a rotation angle from a starting position of the rotary blade and means 700, 810, for causing the motor to be stopped and the rotary blade to be braked when the latter has reached a predetermined angle. The electric motor 400 is connected to a D.C. power supply via a relay device 810 having a pair of contacts 813, 815. In operation, the relay is actuated by an electrical pulse thereby closing the contact 815 to connect the motor to the supply. As the shaft 101 begins to rotate, a cam 600 thereon operates a contact 701 of a switch 700 to maintain the motor connected to the supply after the relay returns to the position shown in Fig. 4. At the end of the cutting cycle, the cam allows the contact 701 to return to the position shown in Fig. 4, thereby causing a short circuit on the motor and thus effect a dynamic braking thereof. A mechanical or magnetic stop device Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown) may be used in conjunction with the dynamic braking arrangement.
