Abstract
1518710 Polymerisation reactor. Mixing apparatus RHONE-POULENC INDUSTRIES 3 Dec 1975 [4 Dec 1974] 49648/75 Headings B1C and B1X An autoclave for the bulk preparation of polymers and copolymers of vinyl chloride is provided with a rotary frame stirrer comprising one or more blades rotatable about a substantially horizontal axis, said axis being eccentric to a horizontal axis of symmetry of the autoclave so that the periphery of the blade passes close to substantially the whole of the portion of the wall of the autoclave defined by its lower generatrix, -the volume generated by the rotating blades being substantially unobstructed to allow free movement therein of material to be stirred. As shown an autoclave 1 has a jacket 2 for heat-exchange, an inlet 5 for monomer and an outlet 7 for polymer and an eccentrically-mounted stirrer comprising three blades 9 at 120 intervals which may be hollow and traversed by heat-exchange fluid.
