Abstract

1515642 Photochromic glass PILKINGTON BROS Ltd 27 Jan 1977 [30 Jan 1976 8 April 1976] 03814/76 and 14415/76 Heading C1M A photochromic glass comprises as non-photochromic components (in weight percent):- SiO 2 8À5-25 Al 2 O 3 13-36À5 P 2 O 5 7À5-33À5 B 2 O 3 7-28 R 2 O 7-20À5 where R 2 O is one or more of Na 2 O, K 2 O and Li 2 O, Li 2 O not exceeding 5; SiO 2 is at least 16 and B 2 O 3 is less than 8; and Ag 2 O is at least 0À05, over and above the 100% total ofnon-photochromic components. The glass may include 1-21 of R'O, where R<SP>1</SP>O comprises 0-4 MgO, 0-6À5 CaO, 0-10 SrO and/or 0-21 BaO. Also present may be TiO 2 0-6, ZrO 2 0-10, PbO 0-8, HfO 2 0-3 and/or ZnO 0-6. The photochromic component may comprise Ag 2 O 0À06-0À6, CuO 0À005-1, Cl 0-1 and Br 0À08-1 (where Cl + Br is 0À2-2).
