Abstract
1514350 Correcting speed and length measurements H ALMGREN and L MILLGARD 17 Dec 1976 [18 Dec 1975] 52929/76 Heading G1N The invention relates to a method of automatically correcting a measuring instrument which measures the velocity and length of an object 17. The method comprises multiplying in a multiplier 5 the output signal of the measuring instrument 1, the signal being proportioned to the velocity of the object 7, by a scale or correction factor, the factor being a quotient formed by the distance L between two pick-ups 2, 3 created along the path of movement of the object divided by the number which is obtained when the output signal of the measuring instrument is integrated as in integrator 4 over the time interval during which a predetermined portion or creation of the object passes through the distance between the pick-ups 2, 3. If a plurality of objects are to be measured the factor is redetermined or recalculated for each object. Alternatively if an "endless" object is being measured the factor is redetermined at predetermined intervals of time. The pick-ups may comprise photo-cells and a further pick-up 6 may be provided upstream of the measuring instrument 1 for measuring object of "finite" length.
