Abstract

1512953 Matching circuits MARCONI INSTRUMENTS Ltd 8 July 1975 [31 July 1974] 33711/74 Headings H3Q and H3W In a signal generator comprising a variable gain amplifier 12, Fig. 3, feeding a load at 18, the voltages at either end of a resistor 20 in series between the amplifier and load are measured and combined in a predetermined proportion to provide a control signal for the amplifier 12 which keeps the amplifier matched to the load and the power dissipated in the load constant. As described the voltages are measured by detector diodes 11, 13, Fig. 4, rectifying positive and negative half cycles respectively. The rectified signals are applied to amplifiers 43 and 44 having a gain set by resistors 51, 52 and a unity gain respectively, the outputs of the amplifiers being summed through resistors 53, 54 to provide a signal which after comparison with a reference level is used to control the gain of amplifier 12. Choke 55 removes any D.C. offset.
