1512753 Basic hydrazone dyes YORKSHIRE CHEMICALS Ltd 19 Jan 1977 [20 Feb 1976] 06738/76 Heading C4P The invention comprises basic hydrazone dyes having the general formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> is OR<SP>7</SP>, NR<SP>8</SP>R<SP>9</SP>, alkylcarbonylamino or alkoxycarbonylamino, R<SP>2</SP> is alkyl, aralkyl, or alkenyl, R<SP>3</SP> is alkyl, aryl, aralkyl or alkenyl, R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>5</SP> are alkyl, R<SP>6</SP> is H, halogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, aralkoxy, carboalkoxy or nitro, R<SP>7</SP> is alkyl, R<SP>8</SP> and R<SP>9</SP> are H, alkyl, aryl or aralkyl and X is an anion which renders the dye water-soluble. The dyes are prepared by quaternizing an azo compound of the general formula in an organic solvent or aqueous medium at 25-100‹C in presence of an acid binding agent. The azo compounds are prepared by coupling a diazotized 3-phenyl-4(R')-aniline compound with a 2-methylene-2,3-dihydroindole. The dyes give yellow-blue shades on polyacrylonitrile and its copolymers, tannin-mordanted cotton cellulose acetate, acid modified polyamide and acid modified polyesters by dyeing or printing methods.
