Abstract
1505989 Gas sampling probe N F GARDNER 9 May 1975 [10 May 1974] 20813/74 Heading GIB A probe for sampling a flowing medium comprises an inlet for a part of the flowing medium, a passage 18 extending from the inlet for the flowing medium entering the probe, the passage having at or adjacent its inlet end a porous wall 6 which extends over at least a part of the length of the passage, means 9, 8 for supplying to the extension of the porous wall a quench medium capable of passage through the porous wall and means, 14, 13, 10, 12 for injecting an educting medium into the passage from its inlet end to cause eduction of a part of the flowing medium through the passage. The probe may be mounted in a nipple 2 at right angles to the direction of gas flow in a wall 3 of an outlet passage from a furnace, its outer ends being held by a cap 4. Outer jacket 10 is thermally insulated at 11 and the annular gap between jacket 10 and nipple 2 may be purged with steam from pipe 16. In another embodiment (not shown) the same gas is used as quench medium and educting medium, and a single jacket is used about passage 18.
