Abstract

1504834 Laminated mineral wool sheets ROCKWOOL AB 6 Feb 1976 4724/76 Heading B5N A method of producing a composite sheet of mineral wool in which a lamella sheet 10 of mineral wool fibres impregnated with binding means is bonded to a planar sheet 11 of mineral wool fibres also impregnated with the same or a different binding means comprising curing the binding means in the lamella sheet prior to combination with the planar sheet, bringing the two sheets together and curing the binding means in the planar sheet to form a bond between the fibres of the planar sheet and between the two sheets. In a preferred embodiment, two or more lamella sheets are used with a planar sheet between the or each adjacent pair of lamella sheets, the fibre layers of one of two adjacent lamella sheets extending perpendicular to those of the other sheet, on a further embodiment, a planar sheet is bonded to each face of the or each lamella sheet. A planar sheet is defined as containing fibre layers defining strata extending substantially parallel to the plane of the sheet. A lamella sheet is defined as being a cross-laminated product formed by cutting rectangular strips from a planar sheet, turning the strips 10a to 10e through a rightangle about their longitudinal axis and joining the strips with the fibre layers in substantially parallel and overlying relationship with the fibres 13<SP>1</SP> to 13<SP>111</SP> extending through the thickness of the sheet. Curing is defined as including the curing of a curable plastics and the evaporation of a solvent from a dissolved thermoplastic. The mineral wool is preferably rock wool or glass wool, the or at least one planar sheet optionally containing a particulate material, e.g. clay or aluminium. The binding means may be phenolic resin or polyvinyl acetate.
