Abstract
1502683 Composite casting FIBREGLASS Ltd 26 March 1976 [2 April 1975] 13516/75 Heading B3F A bushing end wall including electrical heating terminal means, for use in making glass fibres, is made by: (a) making a pattern of the end wall by placing suitable material (e.g. wax) in a suitably shaped mould and allowing the material to solidify; (b) removing the solidified material, and forming a refractory coating thereon (and optionally building up the coating by stuccoing repeatedly with sand); (c) removing the (wax) material to provide an unfired mould; (d) fining the mould (e.g. at 800- 1000‹ C.); and (e) casting the bushing end wall of Pt or Pt/Rh alloy. Preferably the metal is melted under vacuum, the vacuum being released when pouring the metal into the mould. The refractory coating may be formed with a slurry of hydrolysed ethyl silicate and powdered aluminia, zirconia or silica.
