Abstract

1502417 Pontoons SEA & LAND PIPELINES Ltd 17 Feb 1975 [15 March 1974] 11697/74 Heading B7A A pontoon for transporting one part of an offshore structure on to another previously installed part comprises two spaced apart support portions disposed in side-by-side relationship and being rigidly interconnected at one of their adjacent ends only such that their other adjacent ends are able to pass one on each side of the' installed part of the offshore structure to enable superposing of the first part and ballasting means to ballast the pontoon. As described the pontoon is either U-shaped in plan or comprises three or four floats arranged at the corners of a triangle or-rectangle and connected together by two or three frame members, respectively which provide the support portions. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 4, a pair of auxiliary floats 11 fit flushly into recesses in the pontoon's deck and support it via cables 13 when it is submerged by ballasting.
