Abstract
1500286 Component assemblies DECCA Ltd 28 April 1975 [30 April 1974] 18850/74 Heading H1R A circuit package 1 (Fig. 1) comprises a body 2 machined from a cylindrical metal rod to leave an axial segmental aperture 3 bounded by end walls and surface 5 with ledges 6 and depression 7 therein. A microwave circuit board 8 resting on the ledges has a conductive ground plane in its lower surface 10 contacting the ledges and planar circuit elements on its upper surface 11; the boards overlying space 12 decoupled from the circuit. Ends 13 of body 2 carry connecting elements 14 in bores 15 having central protruding connectors 16 connected by ledges 17 of, e.g., gold wire or tape to the planar circuit. The enclosed space 3 is bounded by a close fitting sleeve 18, and the circuit board is retained in position by an elongate semicircular spring clip (Figs. 1a, 3a, 3b, not shown) whose ends 20 bear against the board positioned by lugs 21 and whose curved surface bears against the interior of the sleeve (Fig. 2). Two separate spring clips may be used located above each ledge, and the lugs may be extended to extend into a groove machined in the body (Fig. 3b, not shown). In a modification (Figs. 4, 5, not shown) two semicircular spring clips with hook ends engages the circuit board with their curved portions located in arcuate grooves of the body. The sleeve and body may be electron beam welded together for sealing, or elastomeric rings may be seated in annular grooves of the body or the body and sleeve may be sealed together by adhesive fillets or the sleeve may be peripherally deformed into a V-groove of the body (Figs. 7a to 7d, not shown). The body and sleeve may be of rectangular or alloys bi-section. Two circuit boards may be positioned in a single enclosure (Fig. 6, not shown) spring clipped to each side of a central shelf of the body with dual connectors at each end. The body and sleeve may be of aluminium or an alloy thereof, with a low pressure nitrogen or helium atmosphere therein.
